SINGAPORE - 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE easily steals the top spot as it rakes in US$1,351,793 from 69 screens (including 3D and IMAX 3D) for the year's second highest debut behind ROBOCOP.
Other debuts include the Kevin Costner headlined action-thriller 3 DAYS TO KILL (US$119,950); Japanese anime LUPIN III VS DETECTIVE CONAN: THE MOVIE (US$19,006), high school comedy GAY DUDE: DATE AND SWITCH (US$13,348) and LE WEEK-END starring Jim Broadbent (figures unavailable).
Biographical drama KILL YOUR DARLINGS and FILTH based on Irvine Welsh's novel open on single screens and pick up US$1,978 and US$1,934 respectively. THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN starring Shia LaBeouf scores the lowest screen average debut of the year with just US$750 for a total of US$5,253 from 7 screens.
Meanwhile, last weekend's top film NON-STOP has leaped passed THE LION MEN 狮神决战 to become the 3rd highest grosser of the year to date (US$1,694,873).
Overall, the box office grossed US$2,276,866, a 32.2% increase from the last weekend.
