SINGAPORE - THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY moves up to the no. 1 spot in one of those rare moments where a newly crowned champion is a holdover. It collects US$289,098 over its second weekend, bringing its total to US$1,156,895 to date.
Last year, LES MISERABLES became the first no. 1 film of 2013 when it knocked the Jackie Chan vehicle CHINESE ZODIAC 十二生肖 from the top. And in a case of deja vu, WALTER MITTY stole the pole position from POLICE STORY 2013 警察故事 2013, also starring Jackie Chan.
Only 2 other films climbed to no. 1 last year: PLANES and FROZEN.
Meanwhile, POLICE STORY 2013 drops to the runner-up spot with a US$1,776,436 cume.
The highest debut is the edited PG13 version of the comedy DELIVERY MAN, which serves up US$146,794 from 23 screens for a US$215,160 total to date (including sneaks). The latest instalment of the horror series PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE MARKED ONES arrives with US$139,751 from 28 screens. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong rescue thriller AS THE LIGHT GOES OUT 救火英雄 debuts with US$128,583 from 21 screens (including sneaks).
Other new entrants include the party scene showstopper LAN KWAI FONG 3 喜爱夜蒲 3 (US$47,092 from 7 screens) and three single print releases: survival thriller INTERSECTIONS (US$5,850 to date), Korean romance comedy MARRIAGE BLUE (US$3,043) and the Korean romance thriller ROLE PLAY (US$2,944).
Overall, the box office grossed US$1,556,608 - a hefty 35.1% dip from the last weekend, and a 23.26% drop from the same frame a year ago when LES MISERABLES climbed its way to the top.
