SINGAPORE - LIFE OF PI becomes the 17th film of 2012 to cross US$1m in its debut, grossing S$1,088,510 from 64 screens that includes 3D and IMAX for a mighty US$17,008 screen average.
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN - PART 2 falls to no. 2 after just one week on top. The film is down 63% in its second week, which is close to the 60.4% drop for PART 1. BREAKING DAWN - PART 2 has now grossed US$2,611,784, which is 43.68% ahead of PART 1 during the same frame.
Two new thrillers debut - ALEX CROSS grosses US$95,229 from 9 screens for a decent screen average of US$10,581 while the Nicolas Cage vehicle STOLEN starts with US$27,431 from 7 screens and a weak screen average of US$3,919.
Other debuts include the Academy Award winning documentary UNDEFEATED with US$4,362 from 2 screens and the monster comedy GRABBERS with a disastrous US$3,074 from 2 screens.
Unranked new releases include RUROUNI KENSHIN, based on the popular Japanese manga. The Encore Films release is screening exclusively at two Filmgarde screens. Exact figures are unavailable, but it probably grossed less than US$27,431.
Also unranked in its debut is the Hindi thriller TALAASH.
The total box office gross is US$2,808,534, which is 42.3% higher than the same weekend a year ago when PUSS IN BOOTS ascended to the top in its second week by knocking THE TWILIGHT SAGE: BREAKING DAWN - PART 1 from no. 1.
